Philly Youth Radio announces the launch of their Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. Organized by Yowei Shaw (ACG ’11, ’10, ’09) and Beth Patel (ACG ’12), PYR is a project that works with a diverse group of local high school students to produce radio stories about their lives and communities. The Indiegogo campaign seeks to raise $3,000 for their next season of PYR, which will focus on love and relationships. Money will be used for two recording kits to send home with youth radio reporters; snacks, stipends and money for transit for students; and teaching grants.
Philly Youth Radio is a collaboration between young people and radio experts. The project revolves around the belief that good radio comes from a strong relationship between reporter and editor. Students are treated as reporters and receive critical feedback from radio expert editors – all while being held to broadcast quality standards. Through intensive radio production workshops, youth radio apprentices learn the basics of story pitching, interviewing, sound gathering, voicing, script-writing and digital editing. By the end of each season, all students will have produced compelling audio stories that are ready to be heard on the radio.
