Women’s Poetry and Performance Retreat in Ohio

Ursula Rucker (LTA ’08, ACG ’08) will lead a workshop at Hope Springs Institute in the Southern Appalachia of Ohio during its 4th Annual Women’s Poetry and Performance Retreat from July 12-15 which will focus on the holistic development of the woman, the writer and the performer. The program’s workshops will focus on sharing one’s voice and honing one’s craft and will also feature learning labs and discussion groups about personal and professional topics. Workshops are designed to support women poetry writers of styles and levels. The words of Audre Lorde, “Reconstructing the Root” is the theme for this year. The retreat will focus on uprooting destructive core beliefs and myths about womanhood, life and art and root ourselves in practices that serve.

This retreat serves participants who live and identify as a woman. All interested participants must be 18 years or older, and must respect differences with regards to race, culture, age, sexual orientation and ability. Cost includes room, board and supplies and ranges from $450-$850 on a sliding scale. There are limited spaces available and early registration is encouraged. The program will take place from 5:00pm on Thursday, July 12 to 12:00pm on Sunday, July 15.
