Spring Workshops at Scribe Video Center

The Scribe Video Center will be running several workshops this spring including:   DIY Marketing for Filmmakers, Tuesdays in June starting June 5; Produce Your Own Radio Show, June 5; Community Reporting, Mondays in June and July Starting June 11; Funding for Filmmakers, June 16. Funding for Filmmakers

DATE: Saturday, June 16; TIME: 1:00PM – 4:00PM; Spring 2012

Instructor: Mable Haddock
Fee: $25. $15 for Scribe members

In this Master Class, founding President of the National Black Programming Consortium, Mable Haddock will help participants identify who is currently funding what in the non-profit and foundation arena. She will share her expertise in grant proposal writing and the review process and give examples of funded film proposals. Ms. Haddock will also provide tips on making the best of your grant, laying the groundwork for the next grant and managing your limited resources in an economic downturn.

DIY Marketing for Filmmakers

DATES: Tuesdays, June 5, 12, 19, 26; TIME: 6:30PM – 9:30PM; SPRING 2012

Instructor: Maori Karmael Holmes

Fee: $150.

Whether your film is in pre-production or in the can, you need a strategic marketing plan. A solid marketing plan can help you get funders on board, folks in seats, and DVDs in the Cart. Take this intensive 4-session workshop and leave with a realistic marketing plan that you can implement across a variety of platforms. You will learn how to create effective written, visual and digital content for print and social media, film festivals, crowd funding campaigns, and your very own website. Computer literacy with social network (e.g. Facebook) experience is required.

Community News Reporting

DATES: Mondays, June 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16; TIME: 7:00PM-9:00PM; SPRING 2012

Instructor: Heshimu Jaramogi

Fee: $85.

How do you uncover the news? How do you know if a story is important? How do you produce a radio news story – quickly and accurately? Workshop participants learn the craft and technique of radio journalism by researching, producing and editing short news or feature stories about West Philadelphia for broadcast on WPEB. The workshop culminates in a live radio broadcast on WPEB featuring news reports produced by workshop participants.

Produce and Host Your Own Radio Show

DATE: Tuesday, June 5; TIME: 7:00PM-9:00PM; SPRING 2012

Instructor: Dyana Williams and Derrick Sampson

Fee: $20. $10 for Scribe members

Dyana Williams and Derrick Sampson, hosts of the weekly music program “Soulful Sunday” on WRNB 100.3 FM, will present a survey of the skills sets necessary to be a solid broadcaster and to execute a meaningful show, whether it is a music, talk, or news program.
