Aishah Shahidah Simmons (LTA ’05) will be performing an original narrative at Mother Tongue: Monologues for Black Girls and Stolen Women Reclaiming Our Bodies, Our Selves, Our Lives along with Jasmine Burnett and Safiya Bandele. This event will benefit the support collaboration and primary prevention of sexual assault and will be held at the National Black Theater of Harlem Friday, February 24, 2012. The reception will begin at 6:30pm and the performance will start at 8:00pm. Tickets are $15, $20 and $50. Click here for more information and for ticket purchase. The next day in Brooklyn, February 25, 2012 will be a conference, Catharsis and Emotional Justice, featuring keynote and discussion with Esther Armah, Yolo Akili, and Seshat (Dr. Julie Spooner, Ph.D.). A host of holistic practitioners and body workers will be there for everyone but especially for those on the front lines of the movement to end sexual violence and other social justice movements.
