Call For Artists: 6th Annual Juried Art Competition At William Way Community Center

The William Way Community Center (WWCC) Art Gallery is seeking local artists 18 years or older from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities to submit their work for their 6th Annual Juried Art Competition. Accepted formats include 2-dimensional works, drawings, paintings, mixed media, and photographs. Prizes include a solo exhibition and a group exhibition for up to three artists. This year’s juror is acclaimed installation artist and photographer Zoe Strauss (SA ’02). Submissions must be hand-delivered on Saturday, May 7 or Sunday, May 8, 2011 between 12-2pm at WWCC (1315 Spruce St). The William Way Community Center (WWCC) Art Gallery calls all emerging local artists 18 years of age or older of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, & Transgender communities.

Eligibility

2- Dimensional works, drawings, paintings, mixed media & photographs. Works should be suitably framed, wired, & ready for gallery hanging (hook and nail system) with overall measurements not exceeding 50″ x 50″.

Deadline

Works are to be hand delivered only on Saturday, May 7 or Sunday, May 8

between noon and 2pm at the WWCC, 1315 Spruce Street, Philadelphia. WWCC will not accept shipments.

Entrance Fee

$10 for one entry, and $20 for two entries.

Prizes

One artist selected for solo exhibition, up to 3 artists selected for group exhibition at the WWCC during the 2011-12 Calendar year.

Prize juror

Zoe Strauss is an installation artist and photographer living and working in Philadelphia. She has exhibited in the 2006 Whitney Biennial, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Philadelphia ICA, and will be featured in 2011 at the PMA. In 2005, Strauss was awarded a Pew Fellowship in the Arts and in 2007 she was awarded a USA Gund Fellowship. Her first monograph, America, was published in 2008. Strauss is the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Public Art Project.
