Pasión y Arte at the Fringe Festival!

Pasión y Arte Flamenco Co. invites you to a viewing of the new work-in-progress, El Duelo (The Wake). Witness the profundity of the modern Flamenco Language and be part of the experience!

Enter the inner world of five women as they experience the phases of mourning surrounding the death of a shared loved one. Within the walls of the Woodlands Cemetery Mansion, a site renowned for its historical importance, a new investigation of mourning will take place. Through the traditions of flamenco and Afro-Cuban music, Artistic Director Elba Hevia y Vaca (ACG ’08, woo ’04) hopes to create a piece which both pays tribute to her artistic ancestors, and expresses the modern, changing face of flamenco.

Hevia y Vaca is thrilled to once again collaborate with some of the brilliant musicians who have worked with Pasión y Arte on past projects. The piece will feature the Afro-Cuban jazz singer Venissa Santi (recent Pew fellow), percussion artist Francois Zayas,  flamenco guitarist Raphael Brunn, and cantaora Barbara Martinez. With El Duelo, Pasión y Arte continues to  explore the intersection of cultures and the marriage of styles.

The piece will take place in the mansion at the center of Woodlands Cemetery. Directions are located below. Make sure to buy your tickets early, because seating is limited! We look forward to seeing you in September.
