Call For Entries: Savannah Urban Arts Festival (SUAF)
There are several open calls for submissions to be a part of this year’s festival, including the Deep Pockets Invitational Poetry Slam, SUAFilm, and the Producer’s Beat Battle. There are a limited number of spaces available, so if you think you’ve got what it takes, check out the details for each event below, submit the necessary paperwork, and we’ll contact you after we’ve reviewed all the submissions.
The Deep Pockets Invitational Poetry Slam
The DPI slam will stray from the traditional slam structure and follow that of the gauntlet slam. The DPI slam will have four rounds. First the traditional round poems will have to fall within three minutes and ten seconds, and must be original work, no props. The second round will be a sock puppet round where poets will have three minutes and ten seconds to perform an original poem through a sock puppet. The third round will be a one-minute round followed by an anything goes round where artist may do anything within the three-minute time frame. For more information, contact: Basic – bk@awolinc.org
The Producers’ Beat Battle
The competition will consist of 8 producers head-to-head in a bracket style single-elimination competition. Each producer will be allowed 2 beats per round, a maximum of 45 seconds for each beat, and winners will be chosen by a panel of judges scoring 1-10 in the categories of Flavor, Feeling, and Overall Dope-ness. The highest score moves on and the last person standing wins. Each producer will need to have 6-8 original beats (you can recycle 2 beats in later rounds, if you so choose), but no biting or jacking, this will result in immediate disqualification if you try to pass off someone else’s work as your own. Beats should either be on CD or on a hard-drive in mp3 format. Details: To be considered for the competition, each producer must submit 3 beats in mp3 format, along with your legal name, artist name, and home address. You must also complete a submission form and provide a non-refundable entrance fee of $20 (use the donate link and include your name and producer battle with payment) no later than Friday April 3rd, 2009.
